Our History

The World Health Organization was established on July 22, 1946, and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. We have a rich history of promoting global health and responding to health emergencies.

Over the years, WHO has played a crucial role in controlling and eliminating diseases such as smallpox, polio, and malaria. We have also worked to improve health systems, promote healthy lifestyles, and respond to humanitarian crises.

Leadership

Director-General

The Director-General is the chief technical and administrative officer of WHO. They are responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the organization.

Regional Directors

WHO has six regional offices, each led by a Regional Director. They are responsible for implementing WHO's policies and programs in their respective regions.

Country Representatives

WHO has country offices in over 150 countries, each led by a Country Representative. They work with governments, UN agencies, and other partners to implement WHO's programs and activities at the country level.
