Milestones

1885

Founding of the University

Chartered by the territorial legislature on February 10, 1885, as the Agricultural and Mining School of Arizona.

1900

State Normal School

Acquired by the Territorial government to become the State Normal School for training teachers.

1947

Research University Status

Designated as a "R1: Doctoral Universities - Very high research activity" by the Carnegie Classification.
