
A Symbol of Brazil
Christ the Redeemer is an Art Deco-style statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, standing 98 feet tall (30 meters) with outstretched arms spanning 92 feet (28 meters). Officially named "Cristo Redentor" in Portuguese, it is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and an iconic symbol of Rio de Janeiro.
Completed in 1931, the statue is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone. It was constructed under the supervision of French engineer Alexandre Léger and sculptor Paul Landowski, with collaboration from Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa.

Architectural Marvel
The statue's design combines elements of European engineering with Brazilian artistic vision. The construction used 700 cubic meters of reinforced concrete and 34000 kg of soapstone to create the arms and head.
