Creative Coding Challenge Guidelines
Challenge Overview
The Creative Coding Challenge is an annual opportunity for creative coders to showcase their unique ideas and technical skills. This competition is open to all and aims to promote innovation in arts, interactive media, and generative graphics through code.
Challenge Objective
Design an interactive digital art piece that demonstrates both technical proficiency and creative flair. Participants can use any combination of programming languages, frameworks, or libraries to build their submissions. The goal is to produce something visually stunning, interactive, and thought-provoking.
Key Themes
- Interactivity: Encourage viewer interaction through input devices, sensors, or other modalities
- Technical Innovation: Incorporate advanced techniques, such as generative algorithms, real-time animation, or 3D rendering
- Artistic Direction: Show a clear and cohesive aesthetic vision
- Accessibility: Ensure the piece is viewable across platforms, and preferably includes alternative views for accessibility
Submission Guidelines
1. Project Requirements
- Must be a standalone project that can be run in a browser or installed environment
- Should be original and not derived from previous works
- Participants can use any tools or libraries as long as they are legally available
- Should contain source code, documentation, and screenshots or a video of your final project
2. Submission Process
- Each participant must submit their work in a GitHub repository
- Include a
README.md
file with clear instructions and information about the project - Submissions must be received by the deadline listed on the site
- A final presentation video (optional) can be included for judging purposes
Scoring & Judging Criteria
Judging Metrics
- Creativity (30%): Originality and inventiveness of the project
- Technical Execution (25%): Use of advanced coding techniques and technologies
- User Engagement (20%): How interactive and engaging the work is
- Code Quality (15%): Readability, maintainability, and overall code structure
- Impact (10%): Visual impact and emotional or thought-provocative potential
Prizes
- 1st Place: $500 + Feature in the next Creative Coding magazine
- 2nd Place: $300 + GitHub Premium
- 3rd Place: $150 + Creative Coder's T-shirt
- Special Mentions: Selected participants with notable work will receive recognition
