Academic Inquiries

What makes CEU's interdisciplinary approach unique?

Our approach integrates multiple disciplines through joint courses, collaborative projects, and faculty teams across humanities, social sciences, and emerging technologies. This cross-pollination of ideas fosters innovative scholarship.

How large are the student groups in classes?

Class sizes vary by program, but we maintain an average of 15-20 students per lecture course. Seminars and workshops tend to be much smaller (8-15 students) to maximimize mentorship and peer collaboration.

What research opportunities exist for master's students?

Master's students engage in faculty-led research from day one. We support internships, field research, and independent projects with access to Budapest and Vienna's global research communities and partnerships.

Can I transfer credits from other universities?

Yes. We evaluate international transfer credits on an individual basis. We recommend providing course syllabi and descriptions from your previous institution to the admissions team for official evaluation.

Admissions & Application

When should I apply?

For master's programs, Fall priority deadline is March 15. Late applications are considered on a space-available basis with final cutoff May 1.

Is there a required English language test?

Non-native English speakers must provide IELTs (6.5 minimum) or TOEFL iBT (90 minimum). Exemptions apply for native speakers and those completing degrees in English.

What is the interview process?

Finalists for full-time master's programs are invited to an interview with program directors, typically conducted via Zoom or in-person during campus visits.

Are application fees required?

No. CEU does not charge application fees for any master's programs to remove financial barriers for applicants.

Campus & Student Life

Are there student organizations on campus?

Yes! Our campus has over 20 student-led organizations spanning cultural, service, and academic interests. All students receive a stipend to start new initiatives.

How are academic and cultural events integrated?

We host speaker series, art exhibitions, and community workshops alongside academic requirements. The academic calendar ensures these experiences complement your studies.

Is housing provided for international students?

We offer on-campus housing with subsidized rates for international students. We also provide a database for off-campus housing options in Budapest at our housing portal.

What health services are available?

Students gain access to 24/7 healthcare services including counseling, medical checkups, dental care, and wellness resources through CEU's partnership with Budapest's top clinics.
